Reading Like a Superstar

Help me give my students literacy activities that will help them achieve grade level reading.

My Students

My students mean so much to me. Their sweet faces greet me every morning and inspire me to do my best work as a teacher. I make it my mission to make sure that each student believes they are my favorite!

Unfortunately, these little ones have not had the opportunity to experience a "normal" school year.

We have missed out on activities such as field trips, assemblies, peer tutoring, parent volunteers, and other things that typically enhance their school time experience.

Many of my students participated in remote learning last school year, or have missed many days of school due to COVID cases in their families. This has noticeably impacted their education. It has been a struggle in many cases to make up for the lost time in the classroom. But, we keep pushing and making goals to finish 1st grade with success!

My Project

The most important focus in first grade is learning to read. In light of COVID-19, many first graders are playing catch-up in order to reach grade-level reading. We practice our reading skills in small groups each day, and I struggle to keep children motivated. They get bored with the same old routine each day. A variety of phonics activities and manipulatives will help me keep my little learners engaged.

Magnetic letters, reading games, activity cards, and other phonics learning materials will help my students become engaged learners.

These materials are also multi-sensory. They address visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. Children learn best when multiple senses are engaged.

These materials will enhance my students' phonics instruction and help them to reach their reading goals.
