Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a Title I school in South Carolina where our motto is "Every Student Counts, and Every Moment Matters!" My students come from diverse backgrounds and all receive 100% free breakfasts and lunches at school. Many come from homes where English is not spoken. Some family members come from countries where they were unable to receive an education. My awesome students come to school eager to learn each day. We work to ensure our learning is engaging, effective, and fun! I also recognize that, as a teacher, my job is to provide more than just academic knowledge to students. I strive to teach the whole child and make sure all of their needs are met daily!

My Project

Students LOVE to be engaged in new, different, and special ways. It is essential that we help grow a love of reading for students so they will WANT to read. The more students read, the more fluently they will read and the better they will comprehend.

With this project, I plan to transform our classroom for Flashlight Fridays where we'll turn down the lights, and allow students to engage with books of their choice.

By using the headlamps, students will illuminate their books in a novel and fun way, drawing them into the amazing world of reading. It is my hope that Flashlight Fridays will be enticing to them to engage in reading in an enjoyable way that they will look forward to each week and continue their whole lives!
