Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom students come from primarily lower economic backgrounds, with 100% of our students receiving free lunch as a Title I inner-city school. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are very diverse in their various academic levels. In addition, we are home to a STEM program where our students enjoy a variety of additional learning opportunities we are able to bring them. My students are extension of me and my life-long goals of learning & activity! Thank you!
My Project
Esperanza Rising, Roll of Thunder, Sylvia & Aki, The One & Only Ivan, The Sign of the Beaver are class books we already cover in the classroom. This will give more students an opportunity to enjoy these classics than we are able to do now. We need some replacement books for our group readings. The myth books will allow us to do more in-depth myth study that we do in 4th grade. The students enjoy working in groups and together in these guided reading book studies. This selection will allow us to move forward with updated books and resources to build upon student excitement and growth.
