Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary School, which is located in a low-income area and has a high crime rate. My class consists of 21 students. I have 2 students who are Hurricane Katrina Evacuees. Of the 21 students, 10 are struggling to read. I have a school- based reading program that is grouped instructed and I also have a program that I purchased. The program that I purchased is called "The Reading Lesson". This program is a wonderful program and the students?love working with this computer-based program. The problem that I am experiencing is that in my classroom, I have only one computer. The students have to take turns using the program and one lesson usually takes 20-30 minutes. If I had at least one or more computers I could reach more students at a faster pace. This reading program that is computer based reinforces what I have taught in the classroom and my students that have fallen behind really seem to enjoy working on the computer with this program. They are excited every time it is there turn to work on their lesson. This program is helping my slow learners, but it takes a while because I only have one computer. I would love to see more students benefiting from this program. I need at least one computer.
