Help me give my students an opportunity to explore elements of fiction through an engaging read aloud.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach 4th grade at an excellent elementary school that is paving the way for a bright future for all the students we serve.
My students are some of the most amazing individuals that I have ever met.
They are intelligent, humorous, and inquisitive. I show up to work everyday ready to give them 110% because that is what they deserve. I am the team lead for 4th grade working with 7 other talented teachers, so not only will this donation help my students and my future students, but it will help all 4th grade students at our beautiful campus and community.
I get the privilege of teaching reading through novels at my campus. I truly feel this is the best way to explore the elements of fiction. This book will become part of a class read aloud. Students each will get to have a copy in their hands. As I am reading, the students are building fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. The students become super engaged with the characters and plot. I can teach character traits, character relationships, plot, and theme all with one novel.
My students become excited about learning and applying their knowledge to the novel.
Not only can I teach fiction through this novel, I can integrate nonfiction. I can introduce nonfiction text about mice since mice play such a pivotal part of the novel. I can then teach text features, text structure, and author's purpose. There are so many educational possibilities with this novel.
