My students need books on CD to help develop literacy, reading, and listening skills as well as a lifelong love of reading.
Books are a way to open a child's mind to experiences and places that they may have never realized existed! My students love listening to and reading books. Using books on Cd is a way to keep the excitement of reading and discovering new things alive for each student.
Our school is located in a very rural area.
We are a Title 1 school with a very low poverty rate. Many of our students have not traveled outside of a 20 miles radius of where they live and lack real life experiences such as visiting a zoo, going to the circus, and seeing the mountains or the beach. Reading is one way these students can experience and learn about the world around them without having to travel. My kindergarten classroom has 20 students who love to learn and love to read. Each student brings their own unique learning styles and abilities to the classroom everyday. Using books on Cd helps to address these differences and encourage more discovery and better reading and writing skills. My students are excited about coming to school and discovering new things everyday!
My students will be able to use the books on Cd daily to listen to stories, extend writing skills, reinforce listening skills, and comprehension. Students will be able to pick from a variety of books that will appeal to their own individual interests. Since the materials requested have multiple book copies, this will ensure that many students will have access to the book that they want to hear. Writing about what a student hears and reads helps to support reading comprehension. Students will be able to use the books on Cd to engage in many different writing activities such as illustrating the parts of a book they like, describing a book's setting and characters, character description, extending stories, and evaluating texts.
Anytime that a child hears or reads a book it sparks their imagination and interest to continue reading and discovering new ideas and different books.
Students will be immediately impacted as soon as they are able to hear the first book on cd that we receive. The more exposure students have to books the better readers and learners they will become and that will help enrich their future!Read More
