My students need a couch and two Keet Roundy chairs and ottomans for the reading center. We also need student 24 subscriptions to Scholastic News and Science Spin.
Reading is the magic key to take you where you want to be! There's no better feeling than curling up in a cozy spot with a good book.
I teach in a small small Title I school among a very tight knit community.
Many of my students' parents work 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet. My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and have various life experiences. The one thing they ALL have in common is that they are precious and unique individuals who are eager to learn.
My Project
Kindergarten students are some of the most eager learners, especially when it comes to learning to read! I would love to inspire their love of reading by providing them with some cozy spots around the room to curl up with a good book (or Kindergarten Scholastic magazine). Teaching a child to read is one thing but.... teaching a child to LOVE reading is another. Children need cozy spots to curl up with a book to learn that reading isn't just "school work" (ottomans and a sofa). Reading can open the doors to your imagination and take you on great adventures. I am also requesting the Kindergarten Scholastic magazines to support their love of reading informational texts and exploring topics relating to science.
What better time to instill a love of reading than a child's kindergarten school year!
This year my students have very few cozy spots to really curl up with a book (beside a couple classroom pillows.) A couch and 2 comfortable chairs will encourage students to get cozy with a book and view reading as a pleasure activity and not just "school work". Thank you for consideration in investing into to the lives and success of my students.
