My Students
We have 100% free lunch and many of the students live in shelters, and face many challenges on a daily basis. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.I am constantly looking for ways to inspire and build a love of learning in all my students.
My Project
I want to provide my students with a full, interesting, and leveled classroom library. Many students do not have books at home to read, so school is their chance to explore books.
Building a strong classroom library will allow my students to find joy and skill in reading, which is one of the most important activities in school and beyond.
Developing reading stamina and building vocabulary is a huge need for students in my classroom. This is important since many of my students are English Language Learners and they need the extra practice to help them become amazing readers. Having the opportunity to read more will also help to build their confidence and make them life long readers.
