My students need 12 Language Arts resources, including a set of I Can Read! Cassette Read-Alongs, partner fluency scripts, a fluency card bank, a fluency progress chart and reproducible reading activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students have a desire to be great readers, they just need help building fluency. I teach at an inner city public charter school in south Louisiana. I have 23 first graders and I teach them all subjects, but reading is the most important right now.
After teaching for a few months, I have learned that my students need the most help with reading fluency. We recently received a class set of "Frog and Toad" books, which the students love, but not all are able to read the book on their own yet. I am hoping that with the help of some fluency materials, they will be able to improve their reading skills.
I am requesting reading materials, specifically fluency materials, as well as books on cassette, so that the students can listen to the books while they read along. I also included a writing activity and daily word problem book so that we can incorporate our reading skills into other academic areas.
Your help will make it possible for me to work individually with struggling students. I will also be able to use the materials daily with the whole class. My goal is to have all students reading on level by February or March. The students really have a desire to be great readers, but some of them need extra help.
