This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Let's all face it....bigger is better! My students will become excited about reading when they are reading BIG books! This project includes 5 big books: The Napping House, Rainbow Fish, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Moose a Muffin and One Duck Stuck.
My students are happy to come to school each day.
They come in and immediately greet me with a "Good Morning!", unless I beat them to it. They are excited when we learn something new and when we add new things to our classroom. They attend a Title 1 school in the suburbs. They are enthusiastic to learn new content and would be more than excited to have new materials to use while learning.
My Project
We have a big book station that centers go to each day during our literacy centers. We need a better selection of books at this station. I bought some big glasses at the dollar store and huge magnifying glasses that students use at this station while reading the "big" books, because you must have "big"glasses to read big books or at least that's the kind of logic we like in kindergarten. They are so cute at this center and enjoy reading. When this project is funded I can't wait to share photos of them reading the books. I also have them reach in a bag a pull out a letter or sight word and then find the word in the book they are reading. We also have highlighter tape and post its for them to highlight unfamiliar words or post a note under their favorite part of the story.
