Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our community is rich in diversity and allows for students to engage with many other cultures. My class is full of 4th and 5th grade students who want to learn and have the materials that will allow them to do so. My students range from students new to this country to students who have been attending school since TK.

The class consists of over 75% English language learners and all students receive free lunch and breakfast in the classroom.

My Project

These materials are going to greatly assist students in their reading, writing, speaking, and understand the world outside their bubble.

I will engage with students about current events and their ideas about said events.

Students will respond through discussions and responses to text. Reading is a powerful tool in understanding the world, as well as, creating opinions and making decisions that will affect society in the near future.

I will also use Word Skills to engage with newcomers. This will build vocabulary and confidence in themselves as they grow as readers. Lastly, the use of Storyworks will expose students to multiple stories that will spark creativity and a love of reading.
