Ms. Rennie from Eureka CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Reading is Power

Help me give my students access to new books. A couple classics we love to read are The Outsider and To Kill a Mockingbird, and we are hoping to acquire some new ones!

My Students

Residing in Northern California, our student population has one of the highest rates of varying needs, including but not limited to socioeconomic hardships, adverse childhood experiences, students who are homeless or displaced, students in foster care and English language learners.

My students come into the classroom with individual life experiences and funds of knowledge.

Every student learns in individual, unique ways. We believe all kids, regardless of their background, deserve an opportunity to learn in a safe, fun and empowering environment.

My Project

I am requesting assistance in funding to help rebuild and replace some of our classic novel sets. Having access to new books will be extremely helpful for my students' learning. A big part of teaching literacy is attempting to teach children the importance of reading. Whenever a student asks what will change their lives and how they can be better, my response is always to read. I am specifically hoping to acquire some new To Kill a Mockingbird and The Outsiders books.

I hope to acquire and purchase new novels which will help improve their fluency and help students build relationships and connections between the text and their owns lives.
