My students are dreamers, problem solvers, and likely the most creative little people you will ever meet.
They are a happy group of first graders who love school, and they love to learn.
One hundred percent of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch, yet they don't let hardships stand in their way. My students' economic situations are just as varied as are their family dynamics. We have military families, with a local National Guard Unit in our area and an Air Force Base close by. We aim to take good care of our military families. Our district includes an Indian Reservation, and we have a high population of Hispanic students, many of whom have family members that work in the agricultural industry.
My Project
I am so impressed with my first graders this year! If I tell them there isn't a decodable today to go along with our reading lesson, they moan. When I ask them to put away their AR books, they beg for more reading time. I feel like they are so deserving of a reading reward. They work all year to be able to "Rock the Hall." It is a reward that students in our school get when they meet their year end reading goal. We are on target for our entire class to meet this goal. It is very rare for every child to achieve, but they are working hard, and I think they will do it. I would really like to give them a t shirt they can proudly wear when they meet this year end goal.
Reading is my SUPER Power!
That is what each shirt will say. These six and seven year olds certainly have earned a special shirt, and I am so proud of them. At the beginning of the school year, I wouldn't have believed they could be reading like they are. It's exciting to come to school each day. Someone once said, "I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library." That's what it feels like in my classroom this year. Thank you for helping us!
