My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. No one would know that many of our students at the school come from hard home lives. Most put whatever is going on at home aside and have shining smiles. They all say they want to go to school so they can be smart enough to go to college. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title I school in California where many students have trauma in their lives.
Many of my students do not eat if they don't eat at school. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the idea that I am trying to teach my students, that reading is important and will take you places.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an interest in independent reading, however do not have the access to the books that they have an interest in reading. This project will only help gain them access to high interest books and help feed their hunger for reading.
