Reading is Life

My students need 30 books centered around the authors we study throughout the school year to read and enjoy in our classroom library.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is life and my challenge is to put as many books as possible within my children's hands. My goal is to expose them to a variety of writing styles and to encourage the varied interests within my classroom. I want my students to have a passion for reading throughout their lives.

The kindergarten students within my class are bright, energetic, and curious about everything in their world.

They come from many ethnic backgrounds where English is a second language at home. Our school is a Title I school where every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. The economic background of my students is below the poverty level. The majority of the students do not have access to good children's literature at home and this project would provide them with a wide variety of books to read and take home to share with their families.

My Project

Every month we study a different author through reading and writing projects from books of our chosen author. At the end of the month we write a letter to the author to discuss things we have liked about their books. The selection of books I have chosen will put a variety of copies from our chosen authors into our class library. Having numerous copies from our authors allows the children to read and reread the books over and over again to their hearts enjoyment. Putting books into children's hands at an early age will develop a passion for reading that will stay with them as they move on into adulthood.

When you choose to sponsor this project you will be helping to develop a foundation and a love for reading that will continue throughout these young readers life.

All the books in this project will expose children year after year to wonderful children's authors and rich literature. Reading is life and my goal is to create an environment rich in books.
