Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is great to be in kindergarten! Every morning we start our day by greeting one another. From there, my little ones review their letter sounds and sight words through songs, chants, and dances. We love learning especially when it is through hands-on activities and interacting with others!
Many of the students at our school come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and therefore, cannot afford the most basic of school materials.
We work hard to make sure that we can meet the needs of our students. Each of my students are unique and I encourage them to, "be the fruit loop in a bowl full of cheerios!" My students love learning and definitely love being a part of our school!
My Project
My students need a listening center with a junction box and storage space, a portable CD player and four additional headphones. My students will be using this listening center during Daily 5. Listening to reading is an extremely important part of young students developing the strategies needed to become independent readers. It helps to increase not only their attention spans, but it also helps them to develop one-to-one correspondence, inflection, and comprehension while following along.
This listening center is easy for the students to operate and will allow them more independence.
In turn, it will allow more time for me to meet with my guided reading groups.
