"Keeping Up with the Technology of the 21st Century." This phrase sums up my goal to bring eReaders into my classroom to utilize during literacy centers.
My students are from a small, rural school district that is still trailing behind the technology wagon.
Many of our families do not have the means to incorporate new technology such as eReaders into their homes. Our school has been making strides to get us up to speed; however, I want to make a direct contribution to my students' exposure and experience with new technology. I believe it will light a "new FIRE" to get them excited about reading again. Kids enjoy technology, so by partnering it with reading, I hope my students will develop a true LOVE of reading.
My Project
The eReaders will be utilized during literacy learning centers in small groups or with a partner. They will also be used as an incentive to encourage students to 'earn' time as a reward. This is something new and exciting and it will motivate my students to earn the time and opportunity to work with these great technological tools. This will be an experience that many will not get through their home life. This tool could also provide a child who struggles with reading another media to use to gain understanding and improve comprehension and general reading skills.

It will provide the students with a new and exciting way to learn about reading and the different characteristics, strategies, genres, and authors. The eReaders will be utilized to enhance my current structure of literacy centers and will encourage students to complete their work to earn eReader time as an incentive.
