This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Can you imagine what the world would be like if our youth was wrapped up in a book instead of the streets . . . or caught up by the latest song or television show? Well, I can! That's why I want to introduce them to some of the greatest works ever produced, from Gary Paulsen to Katherine Patterson.
I teach a group of aspiring doctors, teachers, lawyers, and lawmakers.
Although they are only in the seventh grade and are faced with the struggles of growing up in a high poverty neighborhood and attend a Title I school, they are ready to advance to the next level.
My Project
Reading really is fundamental. These books will allow the students in my class to choose books of interest to them and read for enjoyment instead of by force. Students will learn that reading is more than words on a page and will come to understand that it is an opportunity for them enjoy the creative side of their imagination and the author's imagination.
Donations to this project will make a huge difference in the lives of the students in my class.
It will expose them to the works of many different authors of which they may never have bothered to read. Opportunities like this also teach my students that there are still people out there in the world that care for them and really want the best for them.
