This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the new Media Specialist of our Title I school that strives to create opportunities for students to improve their reading skills. Our students have very limited opportunities for reading at home due to the lack of resources. Our students show great excitement for reading when they enter the heart of our school, the Media Center.
Our students are being emerged into a world of technology that leaves very little room for the printed word.
It is important to the staff that our students still get the opportunity to let their imaginations explore in the created worlds that books offer. It is imperative our students have the opportunity to hold books in their hands to truly be engaged in the reading process. Giving students this opportunity will continue to help them grow in the world of reading that many of them struggle with.
Adding books to the Media Center will offer experiences for our students to grow on the interest and levels they are comfortable with.
My Project
Having new and more current books will encourage students to read. Due to out of date books, there is a lack of interest for our Media Center. I want to make the Media Center the heart of the school once again. Having these books will engage students to read based on their interest.
Our students crave the knowledge that can only come from reading a good book.
The newer, current books can be incorporated into classroom lessons that explain the fundamentals of reading. Using characters and stories that interest students will engage them in lessons that will help them learn.
