My students are awesome preschoolers with some special needs. They are mostly on the autism spectrum, and so while they are working on learning pre-K skills, it helps them to have some supports to make it easier on their busy bodies.
My kids work so hard all day to meet their goals.
They are sweet and fun, and love coming to school to learn and play with all their friends. They love to sing and dance at circle time, and they really enjoy listening to stories. They make some beautiful artwork, too!
My Project
As we know, reading is one of the most important skills that a child can acquire in school. Preschoolers may not seem like they should be able to read (and they don't need to read yet!), but the skills they build in the early years will serve them very well later.
Early phonics and phonemic awareness instruction is critical to developing the readiness skills for more advanced reading instruction.
My kids benefit from visual and tactile teaching methods, and these Lakeshore Instant Leaning Centers are perfect for that, as they contain various ready-made centers for vocabulary building, rhyming awareness, letter sounds, story sequencing, and sight words. The Mystery Box is also great for building vocabulary, as well as memory retrieval. What's That Sound Word Sliders will help with phonics instruction by allowing kids to manipulate words on their own.
