My Students

I am a first year teacher in Scottsdale, Arizona. I teach the traditional English side at a Spanish immersion school. I have 35 eleven year old rockstars. These kiddos make me laugh all day everyday. They have taught me so much about myself and the world that I am forever grateful. My students love math and science, however, reading is not one of their favorite things. It has been my goal this year to provide them with books that make them love to read. I love doing literature circles with the few book sets we have. They LOVE to have time to discuss with their small groups and to complete close reading analysis in their books using sticky notes.

My Project

My project is requesting a class set of the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. This was one of my favorite books as a child. We will use this book in a Daily 5 novel study where students complete rotations developing vocabulary, comprehension, pulling text evidence, text to text/world/self connections, plot development, character development as well as making predictions and inferences.
