My Students
Do you remember learning how to read? Was it something that you found exciting or challenging? I would like to make guided and shared reading time in my classroom fun and interactive for my students!
I work in a Title 1 school in Maryland.
Out of my class of 24 students only 5 are native speakers of English. The remaining students are bilingual and many speak no English at all outside of school. They need as much support as possible in the school environment to help them to learn to navigate their world and their new language.
My Project
The resources I have requested will help to make guided and shared reading time engaging for my students. These materials such as funny fingers, pointers, letter stamps, ink pads, a pencil sharpener and highlighter tape will help my students who are tactile learners to interact with the text.
I want to make reading and the English language come alive for my students. Kindergarten students love to be active, to touch and feel and explore with their senses. Using all of these different mediums will allow students to be immersed into reading!
My students have received two fully funded projects from this summer and they have provided valuable tools in my classroom.
They have been so grateful for their new learning tools and have been eager to put them to use. I know that these additional materials will only excite them more. I have been inspired by my students' engagement with the use of learning tools and materials. I want to keep up their momentum and eagerness, please help my eager learners continue!
