Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at this school are from lower socioeconomic status. Our school's population is 90% Hispanic. They are anxious to learn, wanting to succeed, and very helpful.
I am a first year teacher.
I am looking for creative and fun ways to engage my students. My goal is to guide them to become lifelong seekers of knowledge and opportunities. They love to read and want to extend their learning. Reading and vocabulary are necessary to learn other subjects. Increasing their knowledge will only help them in the future.
My Project
Reading comprehension is something that my student's struggle with daily. They love to read, but are not always comprehending what they read. The comprehension sets will allow different groups to work on the topics with which they struggle.
The magazines will appeal to every personality type.
I have some who love sports, others who love science or the arts. These magazines are filled with stories that interest them as kids. I have found that if one becomes passionate about an article, others want to read more.
The bananagrams game is a great way to practice spelling words without having to write them, they can manipulate the letters and see how the roots of some words are the same as others. Manipulative tiles are also a good way to test students who learn visually and more abstractly.
