Hi! I am the lucky teacher of the most amazing class! I have the sweetest students! My students attend an urban Title 1 school in Brooklyn, NY. We are a Kindergarten class. My students are English Language learners in a special education self-contained classroom. I am asking for the ability to purchase books to support the needs of our individual learners so they can continue to grow.
My class library is so lacking, I am unable to send books home for my students to practice their reading skills.
Since the majority of the students are ELL and all are special education students, we teach with a lot of hands on activities. Our class is taught in a laid back environment to ensure the success of all students. My students love to succeed and are so proud of their accomplishments!
My Project
A very important way to learn to read is to read daily. My students have not been given that opportunity. I would normally have my students book shop for three books a day. These books would go home daily and be read with a parent or individually depending on the students reading level.
I have been unable to send my students home with leveled books to practice their reading.
I have made some individual purchases, but I cannot support an entire reading library. Having a funded library will give my students a chance to succeed. All subjects stem from reading. If you cannot read, then you cannot do math, social studies or science.
Unfortunately my school has had budget cuts. The leveled library I was promised is not coming.
