My 4th-grade classroom has 23 enthusiastic students with a variety of needs. I have students that require extra attention because they are below level readers, and I have students that require extra challenge work because they are so advanced.
Students enjoy applying their reading skills in a variety of ways, so during "choice" center time, students have the opportunity to select an activity from a variety of reading resources.
Since we are halfway through the year, it's a great time to update our reading center materials.
My Project
Our class uses MATH VersaTiles in our math centers, and the students LOVE them! Since the VersaTile kits are organized by skill, I'm able to align the center activity with our whole group learning objective - giving students an opportunity to practice skills independently. Students don't use a pencil with VersaTiles; they move tiles to answer questions, then flip them to check their work. They like the immediate feedback and the fact that they don't have to "erase" answers. Students simply remove the tiles that are incorrect and try again. A stress-free way to practice the focus skill of the day.
After seeing how much my students enjoyed math VersaTiles, I know they will love the resources in the VersaTiles Literacy Kit.
