This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students are entering school for the first time in their lives at the age of two and a half years old. Due to the entrance age for kindergarten changing, in many areas around the country, the need to be ready for kindergarten increases. Students are adapting to being away from their family and learning to get along with others. It is my job to make learning fun and encourage them to soar.
Reading opens up a world of knowledge, adventure and fantasy!
Studies show that children who are read to and read daily do better overall in education throughout their lives. It is important for parents and educators to instill enthusiasm for reading. Having books available for independent reading or group reading is important.
My Project
My student love to read stories. We read stories throughout the day. I want them to be able to independently go to the reading area and listen to a book with a friend. Adding a listening center to my classroom will help them not only become better readers, but develop a sense of independence. I want my students to be able to say "I can do it myself!".
It is my goal as an educator to instill a desire to become a lifetime reader.
Whether to gain knowledge, go on an adventure or drift away in fantasy for a while. Reading can be fun!
