This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Fluency is a difficult thing. It is hard for students to be fluent and comprehend what they are reading. A center with books for students to read and listen to will help their fluency.

My students are in 1st Grade and are learning to read.

They are at the stage where reading is fun. I want to capture their interest in reading. I want my students to become fluent in their reading. They are eager to read. By having a fluency/listening center with Learn to Read books, my students will be able to increase their excitement and love for reading. They will be able to become more fluent, while understanding what they are reading.

Students need to gain an increase in fluency. It is hard for students to become fluent and understand the text. When they are too slow or too fast it becomes hard to understand what they are reading. I am going to have a center where my students will practice their fluency. They will do this by listening to stories as well as reading passages to a partner. They will be timed for 1 min. They will practice this to increase fluency. Students in 1st Grade need to be able to comprehend and read 60 words/min. Having the resources and books, like the Matching Letter game, will help my students increase their fluency.
