About 9 years ago I ran across a reading program that looked simple and inexpensive. I was looking for something easy for a few students in my self-contained Exceptional Children's class. I teach in a kindergarten-fifth grade elementary school. I ordered one book on each level and later went back and ordered a few more books and the next level program. It has been the best program I have ever seen for sight word recognition. The students that are usually in my class stay with me from kindergarten through fifth grade. I am supposed to teach all subjects to my 13 exceptional students that range from kindergarten to fifth grade. We spend the majority of our time on reading, math and writing. These children in general read better by a sight word approach, although we do go over letter sounds. Most of my students have gone through the two programs, I Can Read and Reading Is Fun. The Teddy Bear Press has now come out with Reading Is Fun Charts and a set of Holiday books. These two items reinforce the skills taught in the two other programs. I feel that these would be valuable to my students, seeing the impact that the other two programs had on my students. The holiday books would also help the younger children understand seasonal concepts. At the present time these books would be beneficial for 8 students in my classroom, but these materials can be used over and over from year to year. I also need to buy 3 I Can Read level a books. To begin with I only purchased one of these. It is about to fall apart. Thank you for your consideration.
