This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are middle school students in grades 6-8 who are learning to discover a passion for reading. 97% of my students receive SNAP benefits and come from a low
socioeconomic environment.
My students have been introduced to many fantastic authors that they can relate to and I want to enhance their little light and help it shine brighter.
My students are very vocal about issues they face in their community. I believe reading will be an opportunity for my children to escape, if only for a while.
My Project
These novels will make a difference in my students' learning and improve their lives by giving them access to great literature. The novels chosen are great examples of dynamic characters, awesome plots, and most of all great themes. Students have the opportunity to read stories similar to their lives, which will help their enduring understanding of how literature can save their lives.
Reading fascinating text in a variety of genres is a privilege all students deserve.
Exercising the mind by reading great literature will assist students' in their learning. Practice reading skills and strategies will help them better understand what they read. Students can build the home connection of finding a particular issue in the story to focus on and make connections between the story and his/her personal experiences and knowledge.
