My Students

My students are in fifth grade and are eager and charismatic learners. They come to school excited about the activities we have planned and work hard to make the best of every day. Our school is overcrowded and underfunded. We are the least funded district in LA County, and because of our limited budget, my students need your help to make each day a better day.

My 5th graders love to learn and explore the world around them.

They are kind, compassionate, and caring individuals who are proud of their little hometown.

My Project

We are asking for class sets of two different novels. Both of these books will help supplement our social studies curriculum, and will help us integrate social studies and language arts together. "Indian Captive" is a true story about a young girl named Mary Jemison, who was captured in a raid and raised amongst the Seneca Indians. "Blood on the River" is a historical fiction novel that takes us through the times of Jamestown and weaves a story of hope and learning that will capture the students immediately.

By having a novel for each student, they are able to see the text come alive, pull out text evidence when writing about the authors' point of view or comparing characters, and will expand their fluency and vocabulary.
