This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are wonderful, beautiful children who show incredible resilience despite growing up in an environment where they have to live with violence in their neighborhood and limited opportunities in the community.
My students want to learn; they thrive in our school because it is a safe, nurturing environment.
This past school year was very emotionally difficult for the students as we see-sawed back and forth between in-person and remote learning.
I strive to give them every and any opportunity I can to learn and grow, academically and personally.
My Project
These book sets will allow my students to read together with their classmates and discuss quality literature.
My students have been reading books on computers by themselves for a year and a half.
Now we have the opportunity to allow them to have real books to hold, to put a bookmark in, to gaze upon and admire as booklovers do.
I would like these books to allow my students to read with others, to share, to talk, debate, discuss characters, to laugh and cry and revel in the joy of reading.
