My students are becoming Super Readers! Even though most of my students come from backgrounds that haven’t emphasized education, we are working on changing that attitude. In my classroom, we embrace books and we spend time reading books of our choice every day. We are inspired by each other's reading and we share book talks and rich conversations about books.
My students are incredible young people who are going to change the world!
We have been reading books and stories about young people who have made major changes in their communities and even the whole world. I can't wait to see what each and every one of my students do for our world!
My Project
My classroom library is so important for developing a love of reading in my students. It is so important to provide them with diverse books to help them not only see themselves, but also for them to see others. Our school community does not have a lot of diversity, so we rely on books to show us cultures that we might not otherwise see.
There is value in seeing characters that reflect us in the books we read.
I can see the difference in my students when they feel like they are represented in the books they are reading.
We also depend on diverse books to learn about others. I think it is important for students to see others in the books they read because then they will realize that all people and cultures have value. I can't wait to add these amazing books to my classroom library.
