My students need magnetic letters to build sight words and practice letter sounds while working in small groups and Scholastic magazines to read each week.
Do you remember getting a magazine subscription in the mail each week and being so excited to read it? Or what about using manipulatives as a student? Both of these products will help my students learn to love reading!
I teach 23, eager 5 year olds at an IB World magnet school, where learning through inquiry is our focus.
We encourage students to be global learners and also to take control of their own learning. The school is a Title 1 school, which means at least 50% of the students are on free or reduced lunch.
My Project
As kindergarteners and beginning readers, it is so important for my students to be constantly motivated to read. Learning sight words and practicing letter sounds is not always the most exciting thing, but with magnetic letters, it becomes a more engaging task. The magnetic letters are colored coded, vowels being red and consonants blue, which is even better for students to recognize vowel patterns in words. They are organized by letter in a kit, so I can easily grab the letters needed for each student and make the most of our time together.
The Scholastic magazines will provide yet another piece of reading material for students to learn from each week. The magazines will become part of their book boxes and they will be motivated each week by a vibrant, full of information magazine.
The reading materials, magnetic letters and magazines, will impact my students' reading experience for the better.
It is my goal to make learning hands-on and with the magnetic letters, this will be possible. They are also encouraged to explore different types of literature and Scholastic magazines are great nonfiction materials for students.
