"Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are." ~Mason Cooley
My classroom consists of 24 enthusiastic and happy first graders.
We are at a Title 1, low-income, public school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Over 70% of our school consists of second language learners. This means that English is a second language for at least 70% of our students.
My Project
Reading allows us to explore and go on adventures. Being able to focus makes learning easier. First graders are at the beginning of the reading journey and they need a variety of books, and some need the extra tools to help them learn. Being only 6 years of age, they need the help of an orderly library to aid them in choosing a book at their level or a book they are interested in. Having an organized library will allow them to do this more efficiently. Having the wobble chairs will allow my students who need the movement to focus and still be safe. Being able to focus will improve their learning.
With these items, my students will have a systematic library to help them choose books to read and use in their learning.
My students will be able to look at the front of the bin for a topic they are interested in and grab a desired book with ease. Instead of shuffling through baskets or book shelves where books might have been misplaced. The wobble chairs are an alternative way to sit for my students. I want to provide another tool to help all my students succeed.
