My K-6 reading intervention students are active and curious; students who learn best through hands-on activities, active learning, up-to-date books, technology, and games. The diversity found among my students is simply a mirror of the community in which they live. My school is 98.6 free and reduced lunch.
My classroom is unique!
I serve all students in grades K-6 who are struggling readers. All of my students enter my room eager and willing to work their hardest to gain more reading power! They are excited to participate in the reading activities my staff and I have ready for them.
My Project
Because I serve students from grades K-6 in my reading intervention room, you can imagine the vast amount of, and large variety of, materials I must provide for age appropriate learning! I need to make targeted reading skills fun and engaging. Sometimes the same skill over and over and over again presented in new and engaging ways.
I have found with a laser printer and a supply of ink cartridges, I am able to create the vast variety of games and activities I need to give my students more reading power.
Studies have shown that it can take up to 400 repetitions to learn a task or new skill. By teaching with the use of games, that number can reduce to only 20 repetitions. Because I am working with struggling readers, that number matters! I need to have games ready for my students to practice those skills!
As you can imagine it is a huge task to keep my staff fully equipped with quality materials! We serve 20 or more groups a day at various levels, consequently the games need to keep churning out of the printer. Your help will be greatly appreciated! With your donations I will be able to print those high quality games and activities we use day after day.
