This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students want to learn! I am an Intervention Specialist that goes between 5 classrooms to offer services for students in grades k-3. I love going into classrooms and working with students on their reading and math skills. They love working with new materials and get extremely excited when I bring things in for them. My students have various disabilities including ADHD, Autism Spectrum, behavior difficulties and cognitive delays. My students are in a low-income area and experience poverty, homelessness, and other barriers to learning. All students qualify for free/reduced-price lunches. My students have a strong desire to learn and deserve as many opportunities for growth as I can give them.
My Project
This project consists of materials to make learning fun. As an intervention specialist, I go into classrooms and work with students who are struggling. I work with students in groups during their center time. Often these students have been excluded from doing activities because of their academic struggles. As students get older, it becomes more obvious to others that they are struggling readers. By being able to bring in reading comprehension games, word dice, write and wipe cards, etc. I can make my interventions a fun and exciting learning experience that students will want to be a part of. Students will be engaged in rigorous activities while learning and having fun.
