Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday, I get to walk in to see students who are excited to learn and create new things. My 1st graders constantly amaze me with their enthusiasm about the oddities of life. I am lucky to have this privilege every day.

Despite the times being what they are, my students laugh and play every day.

They have found joy where others would not. They get extremely excited about rocks and worms. However, they really come alive during story time. Their favorite time of day is to gather together on the floor and listen to their favorite characters learn lessons or struggle through problems. Right now, it is even more magical because they are starting to read on their own.

My Project

My students come to me thirsty for knowledge. Unfortunately, they lack the ability to acquire that knowledge on their own. Few of my students can read and a few don't even know their letter sounds. Orton Gillingham training will allow me to become a better reading teacher. The strategies used by this training will help my students become better readers quicker. This will allow them to focus on the joy of reading and not on the process. It is heartwarming when a child's face lights up when they finally read on their own.
