Do you agree that motivating students to read and practice reading on a daily basis can sometimes pose a little challenge? Sometimes, students may just need a little incentive to direct them towards a passion for reading!
First, I want to thank you for taking the time to check out my current project and the mission behind it.
I teach in a school that is located in a lower income environment and has limited resources. Our students come to school ready to learn and are encouraged to do his/her personal best each day. Our students are wonderful, positive, and are proud of his/her accomplishments. I am here as a dedicated classroom teacher for my students to create an environment that supports learning, academic growth and safety.
My Project
I would like to give every student in my classroom an opportunity to become a successful reader at his/her own reading level. The resources I am requesting will help provide this success to their learning. The Help Yourself Book Boxes will keep books of all sizes organized and accessible to students. Students can see each title as they flip right through the boxes, and they can easily find the books they need and help themselves. The Reward Treasure Chest will recognize the students for a job well done with their reading when their minimum points have been earned, and allows the students to "shop" for prizes. The bean bag chairs will allow the students to read in a relaxing, quiet corner of the classroom. Students will grow in their oral reading skills, fluency and comprehension.

I selected this project because it is so important to motivate students to read and practice reading on a daily basis. I implement different reading incentive programs for the success of each student. This includes a Weekly Reading Log, Accelerated Reader, and Reader's Response. Students are so proud of themselves when they see the success they have achieved. I love reading and want my students to share that love!
