Kindergarten is an amazing and crucial time period for all students as they learn so much in such a short time. They are like sponges willing to absorb as much information as humanly possible. It's absolutely amazing to watch! Most of our kids live at the poverty level. In my class I have a mixture of general education children, gifted kids, and students with disabilities. Our school is a Title I school and all students receive lunch completely free because above 70% of families live in poverty. Having these leveled readers would help thoroughly as resources both at school and at home are scarce. Our school does not have the funds to purchase a library of leveled readers to use in our classrooms.
My Project
I have the sweetest batch of kindergarteners that are so eager to learn and grow. My students love being read to and reading independently.
I would love to have a set of leveled readers for students of all levels in my classroom to instill a passion for learning and reading for all ages and stages.
I would love to have more simple books for my struggling students, as well as books to challenge my readers, so nobody is left behind. All of my students deserve the chance to have reading materials to help them practice and excel in reading. These books would help my students practice sight word recognition and blending sounds together to create small words during our daily small group reading time.
I also have a reading subscription from Epic where students can have books read to them online. We could use some extra headphones for them to be able to listen to books during small group reading time.
