Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The minds of my 5-year-old students are like sponges absorbing all that is taught to them. I am the proud teacher of a Kindergarten bilingual class in an urban city of New Jersey who does not let any circumstance come in the way of educating my students. Our "Blue Ribbon" school strives to give our students the proper education, no matter what the situation outside of the school might be. They are hardworking and determined 5-year-olds!
My Project
It's Guided Reading Time! Will the Red Apples come join me!
Since my students are just beginning to read on their own, they eagerly await the moment for when I say the above words and call them into their guided reading groups.
In an attempt to teach my students the skills they need in order to become readers, I have decided to create a "Guided Reading Library" in my classroom, which will give me the materials needed to meet the various instructional needs of all the students in my classroom.
In order to achieve my goal and develop an authentic guided reading library for my students, I would need various books from various levels and a system in which to organize them. My students would benefit from having books such as "Tall and Short" (Level B) or "Tick Tock" (Level C). My goal is to teach the students reading strategies at their level that they can later apply to all books.
If anyone remembers growing up with basal textbooks, where everyone in the class read the same stories, at the same level, they will understand the importance and the benefits of having such a leveled library available for my students. By donating to my proposal, you will make it possible for my students to enter in a rich world full of authentic literature written by marvelous authors. Enriching them with this opportunity will inspire them to enjoy reading, become readers and experience a love for books.
