This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 50% African Americans, 35% Hispanic, and 15% Caucasian, and 100% of our students get free breakfast/lunch. Most of my students don't read on grade level, so I am trying to find books that will pique their interest in history. They are typical small-town teenagers who are intelligent, curious and trying to decide who they are going to be.
With hard work and opportunity, my students can achieve their dreams and build a better future for themselves.
They want to stand out but also fit in. There are limited opportunities in our small town for students to experience museums, theater, state/national parks, or other forms of entertainment.
My Project
I love to read and my interest in history began with my childhood reading. Unfortunately, most of my students struggle with reading which makes learning history hard work. I want them to love reading and history as much as I do so I am asking for your help with this project.
These books will help my students develop an interest in history and increase their fluency in reading.
Also, my students will be able to picture themselves in these situations which will help them gain a deeper understanding of the way people thought and lived in the past.
Thank you for supporting my project, I appreciate it more than I can say.
