My first graders love to learn! Our classroom is a positive environment where students regularly display positive character traits like empathy, compassion, kindness, and perseverance. We are a rural farming community. Our school serves students in grades Pre-K through 4th. Within the population, 17% are students with disabilities and approximately 75% are economically disadvantaged.
My first graders work hard to reach their full potential and they are excited to strengthen their reading skills.
They are in awe of the world around them and are excited to continue to learn how to read fluently with accuracy and expression. In my classroom, students are engaged in a variety of activities such as reader's workshop, literacy workstations, guided reading, shared reading, writer's workshop, guided math, math workstations, technology, science exploration, and free exploration
My Project
Our classroom library area is a place for students to gather to read independently, read to a buddy, and to read to a stuffed animal. It is a place to gather for literacy workstations, reader's workshop, and writer's workshop. It is also a place to gather for free choice play and STEM activities. I would like to incorporate a flexible seating opportunity with a reading bench that includes storage for books and stuffed animals.
With this new bench in our reading area, my students will be able to sit in comfort while reading their favorite books.
With your support, my students can have the opportunities to read in comfortable flexible seating that they deserve.
