Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us become strong readers! Do you remember learning how to read? How excited you were to discover another world, my students are just beginning to learn that excitement.
I am a first year teacher with 19 amazing students in my first grade classroom.
I am at a high poverty, low income school, where not all of my children have the means to help them learn to read. My students love to learn and are excited to play games that involve learning. I want to be able to provide them with games and activities that will help them become readers by the time they leave the fist grade.
My Project
The items I have requested will be used during our workshop time. This is a time when students are divided into groups based on skills. By having these activities I can provide them with something other then worksheets, to specifically address areas that they need help in to help them become better readers. I have requested a fluency center to help my students become faster readers. I have requested phonics activities such as bingo that we can play whole group or in small groups.
This project is important to me because reading is the basis of everything.
In order to succeed in life my students must be able to read. It is not acceptable to me to send them on to the next grade without the passion and love for reading.
