Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first year teacher, I would like to create a classroom environment that is rich in text. Because of this, I need to build a classroom library that includes both English and Spanish books. My goal for this year is to get my students excited about reading and moving up reading levels.
My students are curious students who are eager to learn.
Our classroom and school community embrace diversity and see the importance of social justice. They enjoy being in a classroom that is engaged and provides them with a safe and fun learning environment.
My Project
The type of materials that I am requesting are books in both English and Spanish. The books vary by genre (fiction, informational, biographies, references, and story collections). They also vary by grade level (2nd-7th grade) to ensure that my library can be accessed by a diversity of learners.
My students will use the materials I am requesting during their reader's workshop, read alouds, and for personal reading time. They will take off to other parts of the world through their reading and will be able to make connections to the text. They will also learn reading strategies and qualities of a good reader.
This project will enable my classroom to have a library that all students will have access to.
It will also motivate my students to be excited about reading, and they will have access to resources that they may not otherwise have outside of the classroom.
