My Students

I am a special education teacher who serves children with disabilities in grades K-5. My goal is to give my students their best chance to rise above the challenges they face in order to achieve academically.

My students come from a rural, impoverished area of South Carolina, and they face challenges brought on by their learning disabilities and a lack of basic and necessary resources.

Despite these challenges, my students are some of the most enthusiastic learners I have ever come in contact with. They never give up, even when the odds are stacked against them. These children are hungry for knowledge and eager to explore the world around them.

My Project

Many of my students are struggling readers who need extra help mastering basic skills. This activity center will provide my students with extra practice that will be fun and exciting for them to use. They will work together through various activities designed to help them gain fundamental literacy skills.

Any materials that are used to help my students become better readers will impact their lives for the better.

Many students with disabilities struggle with reading, and this negatively impacts every other academic area. This activity center will help my students gain basic reading skills which will give them more confidence in their own ability to succeed in the classroom.
