Students are like sponges. They absorb everything that is given to them. I love how energetic they are when new information is presented to them. Being in the library, I get to work with students in grades K-6 and I love it!
I want to show my students that they can do anything if they set their mind to it.
Our school is located in the heart of rural Appalachia in South Eastern Kentucky. Many students are in the backpack food program, and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Being from a low socioeconomic background and area doesn't stop them from learning, we just have to be more creative when it comes to resources. I want my students to know that if they work and put forth the effort, they can be successful at anything they go at.
My Project
Reading is so important in everyday life. From school to reading for pleasure, reading is just important. It's the basis for all other subjects.
If one can read, the possibilities are endless.
Maybe we can't physically travel to places we'd like, but we can go anywhere in a book. Reading is a valuable skill that students will use beyond a school setting.
When students have an opportunity to choose books to read for fun, they develop a deeper love for it. I want to be able to provide them with those books.
I want all of my students to want to read, not just read because they have too.
