This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year, I have been tasked with setting up a Resource Classroom for Special Education. A Resource Classroom is for students who need extra support in reading or math skills. These classrooms are all about small group teaching and learning. Within the small groups that go to a Resource Classroom, smaller groups are made. Some students may work on the computer, while other work with a teacher. Other small groups may include a listening center and a game center for students.
My Project
For students with special needs, playing a game or reading along to a story is a great way to practice reading skills. Many students with special needs read at least a grade level below their classroom peers. Having these materials in a Resource Classroom enables special needs students to practice reading and reading comprehension skills to help close the "reading gap" between them and their peers.
Let's make practicing reading skills FUN!
With these tools, learning and practicing reading skills will be fun and students will want to participate in the games and listening to stories. Who doesn't like to play games?
