I am a Kindergarten teacher from a low-income area. Our students receive 100% free breakfast and lunch. The kids that enter my classroom come from many diverse backgrounds. Regardless of their backgrounds, my students have many things in common. They are all young learners with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to be loved, heard, and allowed to be themselves. Every day I see how my students are unique and special. They are so inquisitive and love to learn new things.
All children deserve the best educational opportunities.
Our school division tries its best to provide for the students, but the budget does not always allow for all the necessities. It is up to me to meet my students need and find a way to provide my students with the tools and resources so they can be successful learners.
My Project
Learning to read can be a challenging task for many young readers. In order to interest children to want to read, students need to have an assortment of resources available on the levels of their reading abilities. That is another challenging task for teachers - finding resources on each child's level.
The materials I picked out for my students vary in levels needed for a Kindergarten classroom.
I will use these materials daily in small group reading center activities. Students will also be able to take the readers home in their communication folders to continue to practice their reading skills with their parents.
