Diversity is the word that best describes the students in my classroom. They are from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. Many have never left our small town while others have traveled throughout the United States and beyond.
Even with their diverse backgrounds, my students accept everyone and work to encourage their classmates.
They embrace and exemplify our school's motto: Be Ready, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. We develop a family atmosphere in our classroom. It doesn't get much better than that!
My Project
Today's students are surrounded by technology and interactive computer games. With all of this technology, the joy of reading has been lost for many of today's young people. In my 29 years of teaching, I've seen my students go from cherishing "real books" to not wanting to pick one up.
The joy of reading a "real book" has been lost since technology took over.
In my search for books to engage students, I came across the Skeleton Creek series. It is the perfect series to get students excited about reading because it combines both reading and technology! As students are reading, they are directed to a website and given a password which contains a video to move the story along. I believe this is the perfect combination and will get my students excited about reading again!
