My students need Time for Kids for many reasons. It is so difficult to find good, authentic, high-interest, non-fiction reading materials for 3rd grade students. Time for Kids offers students interesting articles covering current events.

My Students

My kiddos are AWESOME! They come from a wide spectrum of socio-economical backgrounds and families. My kids are kind to one another, they work hard and they are respectful to adults.

We are in a VERY old building with VERY old amenities.

When the heat or air kicks on, it is very loud and it is difficult for students to hear me or their peers. We have some reluctant readers who are learning English or are just not confident. These readers are not heard over the loud blowing of our antiquated ventilation system.

My Project

Reading non-fiction texts is often an arduous task for new readers. The content usually isn't engaging, the vocabulary can be more difficult, the structure is less familiar than what they are used to, so it is a constant battle finding engaging content for 3rd graders.

Time for Kids is an updated magazine highlighting current events aimed at the elementary reader.

The articles are at the appropriate reading level for 3rd graders and are high-interest, making them more enjoyable for even the reluctant readers.

These magazines will be a consumable for my students. I see two groups of third graders (with a maximum of 22 students per class) daily. Because the content is time-sensitive, students will keep their magazine after we have used it in the classroom.
